Belfast

Belfast

Belfast was called the « Beyrouth  of Europe » for a long time. For almost 50 years, loyalists and unionists (mostly protestant) on one side, and republicans and nationalists (mostly catholics), on the other side fought in Belfast. Since 1998 and the « Good Friday Agreement », Belfast has become safer, the city tries to change, start-ups are settling in the former shipyard, tens of bars play live music every night. But separation walls are still scars of the city, the « troubles » are still painted on murals, and the city struggles to turn the page of its past.
